Virginia's View Challenge #21

Well, hello, December!!
"It's the most wonderful time of the year...."
Does that ring a bell?

It's time for us to make festive happy cards and what better way to jazz up the design than with GLITTER!? No matter how much glitter is on your project, a pinch, a few sprinkles or full-on glitter...we want to see them all!

To help us kick off this last challenge, we are having one of the most amazing card-makers to inspire us. Please welcome the one and only Lisa Spangler from sideoats and scribbles.

Lisa's artistry in card-making has inspired many in the last decade. While she worked at Hero Arts, I was one of Lisa's many fans of her beautiful and polished work. Over the years, I have learned so much from Lisa's teaching and sharing. If you say that she is my stamping idol, well, she totally is! There is always something special...something extraordinary with her cards and you just can't pin point it sometimes. And we are not even talking about her amazing photography! I guess that is why she is a crafting super star! Without further ado, here is Lisa!

Lisa: First off, I just had to say thank you so much to Virginia for having me guest in this last challenge. She had asked me to participate before, but the timing didn't work out. I'm so glad to be able to participate -- and I can't believe she's been doing this for so long. I think she's amazing and we should all give her and her family a big huge round of applause! HUGS to you, my friend! xo

Lisa: So, this card is for those of you who HATE glitter, but still want to play in Virginia's challenge! To me, December means glitter -- and the more the merrier! -- but I know glitter isn't everyone's thing. Glitter can be bold and bright, but it can also add subtle touches of sparkle that really help set off your card. Here I used some glittery goodness three different ways -- let me walk ya through it!

Lisa: First off, I embossed that sweet bear with sparkle embossing powder and then watercolored him. Speaking of watercolor, I'll have a write-up of how I did that over here on my blog. I didn't want to distract from the glitter and write about it here. Next I decided that lil guy needed an extra something, so I added glitter to his butt! I've been known to "color" other things with glitter too -- snowballs, the white parts of Santa's hat, bunnies -- I guess nothing is safe ha!
Lisa: The third way I used glitter was along the edge of the bear piece. To do this, I squirted a line of glitter onto my craft sheet, then tapped the edge of one side through it. I repeated this for all 4 sides. It's so much easier for me to get a more even line this way -- and cleanup is a snap! Then to finish off the card, I heat embossed the "joyful tidings" with dark blue pigment ink and more sparkle embossing powder.

Lisa: After assembling the card I just added some sparkly silver twine -- and that was that!
Thanks again to Virginia for having me, and happy December to all of you!
Can't wait to see what you all do with GLITTER! xo

Aren't we lucky to have Lisa inspiring us today!? Please stop by Lisa's blog (sideoats & scribbles) and check out her water-coloring tutorial and leave her some love! I can't thank Lisa enough for her knowledge and tips that she generously shares with us. Lisa, you are a ROCK STAR!

  6. Oh boy, glitter...what fun. Have tons of it and use it seldom except at the holidays. Hopefully the challenge will reduce my stash of it a bit. So good to see Lisa's work, she's such a pro and that card is delightful.
